How to cook for your whole family
I'll be honest. I loved to cook before I had kids. I would try new recipes all the time and was adventurous with flavors, textures, and cooking techniques. Most of all, I was certain that when I had children, they would become miniature foodies. Well, reality turned out to be quite different. Making dinner became a source of stress, disappointment, and anxiety as each new (and sometimes not new meal) was met with disdain and an unwillingness to eat it from our daughter Charlotte, whom we found out once she was 2 1/2, was actually a problem feeder. She lacked the skills to be able to eat most foods and had sensory issues on top of it that made trying new foods a less than rewarding experience.

Charlotte is now almost 9 and you know what? Cooking has become enjoyable again and I want to share with you, parent to parent, the lessons I've learned that have allowed us to eat one meal as a family again. We learned a lot in feeding therapy that has shaped my cooking, but this book isn't a therapy cookbook. This is a cookbook for parents, by a mom who knows what it's like to be in the trenches, having to cook for a family of four, with differing needs and preferences. This is a cookbook for people who love good food and who want their whole family to be able to join together at the table, to eat one meal, together.
